  • A Beer Scratch Book.

Every once in a while I will by or come across with a beer that has a very cool (to me) label. And some of them can be easily removed without spoiling them and I stick them to a piece of paper. So I had this idea of keeping them and maybe make some kind of beer-scratch-book. Here’s the first, and I am almost sure I have another one somewhere around the house. I don’t know, seems like it’d be a fun little project.

  • Rainy Days.

On rainy days I enjoy a quiet house, some D’Angelo’s Voodoo Album playing in the background and seeing the rain fall from my window. They are very enjoyable and productive days, working from home. That being said, it has been raining for 4 days now! Ya parale (Stop it now)!

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

🔗 Yes, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is bigger than Odyssey - Rock Paper Shotgun

I would actually say in terms of range it is probably a bit larger than Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I do not have the exact figures at this stage, but we have not only created the whole country, which is in this case England, but also a good part of Norway too. There are other secret worlds, which I can not speak about today, which contributed to the size of the game. It’s not a small game. It is a game which is clearly ambitious, which will offer many, many hours of gameplay for the players.

If you somewhat know me or have been reading my blog, or even if you’ve never read it or care to know me - 😅. You should know (or will learn) that I am a huge fan for AC: Odysse. I have clocked over a hundred hours on this game. Now, learning that the next installment of this franchise will be bigger… I. Can. Not. Wait.

  • Marley Goes to the Dentist

Today was Marley's first visit to the Dentist, like ever, a pediatric one of course. Believe me when said that I was probably as nervous as she could have or even more. I had no idea how this was gonna go down. Will she freak out? Will she whine a lot? Will I freak out? Etc. Neither Marley or me have ever been to this place before.

Well the place was really inviting, as soon as we walked in everyone was super nice and attentive, and they had a nice playground on the waiting area (which I was assured they disinfect after each visit). The place must be new because it looked very clean, smelled good and, again, looked new.

Once we got called in, my daughter transformed. She was supper compliant and extremely — and unusually — quiet. But who can blame her? She got her teeth pictures taken with no issues whatsoever. Then the pet I was more worried about, the cleaning and the check-up. During this whole process the entire staff was very friendly towards Marley, and me, making Marley feel comfortable.

It was super cool! They got her headphones and sunglasses on. She had Toy Story playing on the ceiling and everything! I’m not gonna lie, I want to start coming here too if I could- 😅. And again, she did so good! She never complaint, she never whinnied and she was very compliant to every instruction. I would say this went as good as I could have hoped!

    Very proud of Marley.

  • Beer Tracking

As most of you may know — and if you didn't know, you will now — I am a pretty big craft beer enthusiast. Although I am into IPAs and Stouts mostly, I still like to try different styles from deferent breweries. Every time I travel I make it a point to visit — if possible — as many of the local breweries as I can or at least buy local beer if I happen to stop at a local restaurant or market.

I have used different methods in the past to keep a record of what I have tried and any notes about them. The first app I ever used was Untappd, the problem I have with this particular app is that with time it kinda became the Facebook of beer tracking and there a lot of features and things I neither care nor need. Then I had discovered, probably the best beer tracking app ever made, TapCellar and god knows how much I miss it! Sadly this app was retired. Later, Mr. Drafts himself, Tim Nahumck created a Drafts action to try to mimic what TapCellar would do and it was perfect! The only problem was (or is) that I never see Draft as the final place for notes thus I always had a problem deciding where to send them after. I did try DevonThink, tried Bear Notes, Apple Notes, and even Ulysses. But for whatever reason, they never stick with me.

Another app that was made and that it was also a beautiful simple app was BeerTap. It had more scoring components than TapCellar but it was simple and beautiful. This app is dead (in my best Olaf's voice). Sad.

So, what have I been doing? I have been logging them into my second brain -- my blog. It's great, it works, I have this fancy Shortcut that was made by @sku_b in the Micro.blogs that lets me document and format it in a manner where I can then just sent it to my blog via Drafts. The problem comes when, maybe I forget to tag the post so it goes to my beer category or if I need to search. It is not as easy as if I had a dedicated app for beer tracking.

The ideal would be to have a place to store all this information that it's not just my blog. Someone needs to get into making one of these apps again and take my rupees !!!

In the meantime, well, let us see what I can come up with.

  • Another Reason Why.

I had an aha! moment of sorts today, or rather it was last night. As I had mentioned before, my gaming console of choice for the pasts few months has been the Nintendo Switch. There are many reasons like ease of use, you pick it up and play. You can continue – very easily – were you left off in the game. The portability of the device, it can play it on the tv (which is rare that I do) or handheld, this way I can play while others are using the main tv. But last night I had another thought, so many of the games on the platform are relatively cheap! Or at least the ones I gravitate around the most. Yes, they might be at the same price in other consoles, but there’s something about indie games that feel right at home when played on the Switch.

Which by-the-way. Have you all checked Huntdown yet? It looks so Metal!

  • Is It Laziness

It’s been a weird couple of weeks, hell a weird couple of months! Ever since the pandemic and the stay-at-home orders hit everything it’s been Crazy-Town Banana-Pants in many ways. The thing in my mind recently has been both my mental and physical health, mostly my physical. I think I was doing pretty good about working out at home, putting the time and effort. Then I had some back issues that needed to be taken care of. Today I actually had my last session with my therapist. Everything it’s back to normal and in the event things get uncomfortable again, I know exactly what to do.

That being said, I haven’t actually been working out for a few weeks now, other than running. I think the reason I have picked up running is mainly because it gets me out of the house. Working out requires me to be inside. Yes, I can workout in my backyard but still, I rather go out to the wilderness of my subdivision. It’s either that or I have just become lazy.

Running seems like a good thing to do, it’s good cardio and helps me mentally.

  • It's A Good Day

Today iA Writer, one of the many text editors I have used and enjoyed, released version 5.5 for both iOS and macOS. And this is a very exciting update because it includes some publishing improvements like support for Micropub, meaning I can publish to my hosted Micro.blog site from the app.

This is something I was able to do in other ways like with my beloved Drafts. But when it came to adding images to the post and such, doing so felt a little bit of a hack. Now, it's much easier and this is probably my most compelling part of the app's update.

    Very excited for this!

Here's a random image just because I can.

  • WFM Longtime.

We had a company call today, addressing the company’s plan to get everyone back to their sites if they have one. Long story short, I have no idea when I am returning to my cozy trailer and desk. I’ll be getting some PPE from the company in the mail in the upcoming weeks but that is it.

In the meantime I have come to terms with the girls, they can do all the mess they want, as long as they help me clean before their mom gets home.

  • Instagone?

I have deleted my Instagram account this weekend. This is something I have been wanting to do for a while but couldn’t bring myself to do so. Yes, I hated the overwhelming amount of creepy targeted ads, and some of the posts I had been seeing but I was putting up with it. This weekend was not the most pleasant one and I think a combination of feelings and mostly anger brought me to the impulsive decision. What’s done is done and even if there was a turning back, I rather think there isn’t.

Now, as far as my digital life, I am left we both Twitter and Mastodon – not including Chat-apps.

  • My second brain.

I cannot remember exactly where I read this, it must have been recently but it was a blog post about blogging. How your blogs can be considered our second brain. And I had been thinking about this for the past few days. Some use Wikis for this I think, although for whatever reason, I have had a hard time wrapping my head around what or how a wiki should be or work. But that’s not here nor there.

Many of the things I post about in my blog-space, besides mumblings like this, are things I like, a small story or whatever is on my mind really. But there’s also a lot of posts about music (a song or album) I liked, movies I am watching, something I’m reading, a beer I tried or something I’m playing. I add categories to these, sometimes small posts, in case they need to be searchable later. Everything and anything of importance (to me) goes here, in my blog. For me to reference later and for others to maybe enjoy something new?

And it had happened where I am talking with someone about, I think it was about a specific beer and yes I could probably have used Untappd to search it but I tend to document my beers here more than on the app. Anyway I quickly searched in my blog and there it was and all the information relevant to me about that beer.

    IN OTHER NEWS:

Still playing Streets of Rage 4 on the Nintendo Switch, I have probably beaten the game with at least every main character now. Good stuff!

  • Something I liked this week Volume 26.

Remember side scrolling beat-‘em-up games? Like Streets of Rage 2 (probably the one I remember the most from this franchise) Double Dragon (I played this on the SEGA MASTER SYSTEM II, spent hours playing coop with my best friend) or one of my old time favorites Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (Arcade, SNES) or the Ninja Warriors? Oh and I cannot forget to mention SNES’s Batman Returns, this game was a lot of fun!

These type of games were my favorite genre growing-up, to me it was the Arcade era with some of them (Remember Arcades?). The games you would play with one of your friends side-by-side or just spend hours – and a lots of coins – playing by yourself.

Some of these I still play to this day, for example Ninja Warriors, this game got remade a few times and then finally brought to the Nintendo Switch last year, I think, as The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors. Thugh you can still get the original on the eShop, I much rather play this version.

This week though, finally, we got Streets of Rage 4 and oh boy I was excited to get my hands on this one. I purchased the game on the Nintendo Switch, my gaming console of choice these days and I am loving it. Is not a remake, it is a sequel, which I very much appreciate. It has all the cool elements that bring back all those memories from the previous iterations. The art is fantastic, it reminds me a little bit what they did with Street Fighter V with the cool art. The music is amazing on this game! If there’s something that makes these games awesome, is the music. As a matter of fact, I have been listening to the game’s soundtrack when I’m not playing it 😅.

Streets of Rage 4 (Original Game Soundtrack) by Olivier Deriviere

Although the game has its own modern but awesome soundtrack, you can also switch to the classic retro style music while playing the game, super cool.

There’s not a whole lot to say about the gameplay itself, I mean it’s you walking around beating the crap about of thugs. Each character have their own special move which it reduces your life bar a little bit but if you punch a couple of bad guys right after you get what you lost back. If you don’t hit anybody or they hit you after performing the special attack then you’ll loose it. I think this is why I keep dying a lot, because I use those moves a lot 😅. They’re pretty cool though, it’s a shame no to use them.

The game isn’t too difficult, granted I am playing it on easy 😝. I have been playing pretty much non-stop since I downloaded it and just finished it a few hours ago. And yet, I immediately started the game again, with a different character this time around. You can actually switch characters in the middle of your current game but I want to play the whole story one character at a time.

Again, I am having lots of fun with this game, worth every penny!

  • Stop Giving af!

🙌🏼 🖋 Stop Giving af and Start Writing More

This was a very fun read. Much of the things mentioned here are exactly how I either consider my blog to be or/and, in some ways, how it should be…

For example, this entire section right here.

    Fuck pagination.

Pagination is a garbage way to browse a site like that. The only thing pagination is really good for in a browser is saving slow servers from having to render 100s or thousands of items to the page.

    […]

Look, nobody was flipping through pages on your blog to find anything anyway, so it’s fine.

I have always worried about this aspect of my blog. Whether the theme I am using has pagination or not. Maybe I should careless about that aspect

    Then this,

    No More Analytics

While we are talking about toxic practices, analytics might get top billing.

“I’m using analytics to monitor what content performs well for my audience.”

    🤮

For me this is a shitty optimization. Instead I’d like to optimize for being useful and interesting to both you and myself.

    A-fucking-men! 🙌🏼

    Separate Yourself From Your Ideas

If others test your ideas and beliefs they are not testing you as a person. It’s perfectly ok to have apposing views and still like the other person — in fact some of my closest friends are so close because they give me different ideas and apposing view points. Make your circle as diverse and as interesting as possible and you will be a better person because of it. Separate yourself from your ideas and you will feel much better.

    A hundred percent this!

  • When old becomes new.

Robi-ducking-Draco Rosa! This was probably one of my favorite artists growing up. I’d say end of high school and part of my college years. Somewhere during that time? Anyways, the thing is, he got boring after a while. He stopped putting out interesting new stuff. And now, all he does is recycling old songs and remastering them. He has become the most overrated song writer in Puerto Rico.

Here’s his “new” album Mad Love Luxe (Remastered) by Draco Rosa which is just another remastered version of a previous album. And yet , here I am listening to the whole album as if I’ve never heard of it before.

    I suck! 😅
