  • My first “On this day”

Today I clicked my “On this day” tab and even though I’ve only been using Micro.blog as my blog hosting service for a few months, 2-years ago I made my first blog post. At the time I was using Wordpress as my hosting service. I can’t believe it’s been 2-years since I started “blogging”

  • Getting back on track.

Today I have completed my first good workout in a while. I want to get back into it, no, I need to get back into it. Back to not just a better physical state but also a better mental state, I believe one comes with the other. I want to feel good and healthy, and also good about myself. Too many things in life, poor excuses and bad habits are the culprits of my current state. I think it’s time to change that!

A workout routine, I need to get serious about it, close those rings, be consistent and no excuses. Better nutrition, stop or reduce significantly my poor choices when it comes to unhealthy foods and snacks that have no nutritional value. Probably my biggest guilty pleasure right now are potato chips, pizza (which they love buying at work for almost any reason) and donuts, I’ve got to work on that. Also make sure I do all my meals through the day and drink more water! Less alcohol, drinking alcoholic (mostly beer) is probably my worst habit. One that got worse while I was unemployed, probably bored and depressed, I’d say. Though I consider myself a craft-beer enthusiast I feel like I have been drinking too much, too often and probably for the wrong reasons. Whereas before I would treat it more like a treat or reward to myself. It was more about the experience, trying something new and enjoy it without been too excessive. Definitely something that needs correction.

I think my biggest challenge on this it’s commitment, to stay focused, consistent and true to myself. I’m sure I’m going to need some help and establish some systems in order to stay on top of things. But if stick to my plans I’m sure I’ll to start seeing — and feeling — some positive changes and that will keep me motivated.

    I wish meself some luck!

  • It’s good to have friends.

It is always good to have good friends come over. Those that no matter the years and the life changes, they are always around. The kind of friends that celebrate those changes with you as if was theirs. The kind of friendship my wife (in her somewhat infinite wisdom) has always advise me to cultivate and nurture.

We had a good time today, they came over, they met baby Luna, we had pizza, beer and good conversations.

  • I broke it!

A long time ago, I remember listening to The Talk Show, the special guest was Merlin Mann. I don’t remember exactly what was it about, but what I do remember was Merlin saying something about, you don’t wanna do anything computer related while having a holiday party.

    I should have listened.

Last night, for whatever reason, I thought it was a good idea to restore my MacBook Pro. Some things weren’t working right and also I didn’t be wanting to be running a beta anymore. I have done this before, many times over, and still I did some research before going in. I don’t know exactly what I did, what I deleted that i should have or what, but things weren’t going great. I contacted apple through the support app, chatted with a gentleman called “Tim”, very nice guy. He tried to help me out the best he could, kept getting errors. Until the computer just went caput and when I tried to reinstall the software, there wasn’t a drive to install it to. So MacBook is a paperweight right now. Sad!

At least I knew in my heart I screwed up, something, not sure what but i did. Tim set me up with an appointment at the Genius Bar for Tuesday.

Yeah shouldn’t be messing around with my tech while I have been drinking. It was a delicious beer though!

  • Gabz/mL

Two Beers and a Marley has become Gabz/mL ,Gabz per milliliter ? Let me explain a bit, my name is Luis Gabriel Santiago, my friends call me Gaby, some call me Gabe but others just call me Gabz (not sure why but they do)! The mL, well, it does have that scientific reference. A reference to my degree and related jobs and it’s also a “pun”, the “m” is for Marley and “L” is for Luna. Marley is our first daughter (almost 3yo now) and Luna is our second and most recent addition to the family (she’s almost 2mo old).

Hopefully this will stick! I have been playing with many ideas about the identity of this blog for a long time now. Going back and forth, specially since it has taken an entirely different direction and meaning since I moved it to Micro.blog from WP. It is a whole different concept and idea from the one I had when I first started it almost two years ago.

    So, yeah, Gabz/mL it is!

  • Two beers and a Marley ?

Back when I was playing with the idea of starting a blog of my own, I struggled for a to find a “good” name for it for a while. Until, one day, I remember I was having a group-text conversation with some friends. This was a few months after our first daughter Marley was born, so a little over two years ago now. I don’t recall the exact conversation but I do remember that whatever the joke or the subject was, I didn’t get it until probably ten minutes into the conversation, I was a little lost there for a while. It was definitely one of those “oh! right!” moments. And as expected from these individuals I got a lot of crap for it. To which I said “in my defense I have had two beers and I have a Marley”. And from that little “joke” it’s how the idea of Two beers and a Marley came about.

So I created my blog and named it, Two beers and a Marley. I was probably the only one that really got the joke, some people just thought it was a cute idea or something like that. But I have rolled with my own joke for all this time, about two years or so to be exact. Here’s the thing now, we recently had our second baby, a new addition to the family. And somehow I feel like Two beers and a Marley doesn’t quite work anymore. Now I am rethinking the whole concept. I probably could still get away with the original name but for whatever reason doesn’t feel right. I have a couple of ideas that I am evaluating but nothing for sure yet. For now my Micro.blog it simply called Gabriel until I can either come up with a new name or decide to just keep using the original one.

One thing I do know for sure, it’s that I am definitely sticking with Micro.blog for my blog hosting and getting rid completely of my Wordpress account. I have sort of been maintaining both “sites” opened but I think I won’t be renewing by WP membership at the beginning of 2019.

Other things to consider in 2019:

    • get rid of Facebook ?
    • get rid of Instagram ?

  • Dragon's Milk | New Holland Brewing Company

    Tonight’s delicacy, Dragon’s Milk

This legendary beer’s name was born from a story told in medieval times. The knight’s reward for slaying a dragon was the treasured “milk of the dragon.” Today, Dragon’s Milk is an English term used to describe the finest liquid in the house. We believed the liquid we were crafting would be the best in our house. A true legend, hence the name.

  • For the joy of it.

Wow! I wrote this post back in 2017, when I decided to start “blogging”. I was using Wordpress at the time. It has been roughly a year and a half (give or take) since then. Recently I’ve migrated everything from WP to Micro.blog and the intention still remains.

a place where I can express myself, talk about things that interest me…

If anything has changed since is the fact that I am less scared or intimidated by sharing my thoughts and put them on the web. Also I ejoy more talking/blogging about things I enjoy and love, no matter how small. To celebrate the good things in life. To do it for the joy of it, even if only one person reads it. I have always been all about celebrating and praising the things we love and enjoy rather than criticize everything in this world. Of course there will always be some criticism, but not so much in this space that I have “created”, if that makes any sense.

Anyway, I guess I should go ahead and setup a calendar event for my “blogging-birthday”, for next February and celebrate 2 years of me pretending I’m blogging? No? Okay

Crispy Apple Turnover by Woodland Empire Ale Craft: The first one of this season (2016)

I miss TapCellar, was such a great app for beer journaling. I don’t think there will ever be a good replacement for it. I guess [Untapped](Untappd - Discover Beer by Untappd, Inc itunes.apple.com/us/app/un…) would be the obvious choice but I really don’t enjoy using it.
