  • Something I liked this week Volume 11.

    Overwatch

I know I’m late to the game but I just happened to pick this up today and so far, I like it a lot. There was also some “per-pressure” involved (two of my coworkers are currently playing the game) and the fact that the game was on sale so — had to!

I have only played for a couple of hours but I can already tell I’ll be spending a few hundred hours on this game, kinda like when I got into Destiny a while ago.

I started playing as Soilder: 76, in my opinion the most basic character. Basic in the sense that’s probably the best character to get familiar with the game specially you are familiar with first-person-shooters then this character will be very familiar. Obviously I don’t want to be stuck using only this character so I have been spending a some time in the training mode. This way I can experiment and get to know some of the other characters in the game, which there are about 30.

If you’re still playing this game and want to add me to your party or something, I’m Pixelat3dPanda on the Xbox Lives.

    We’re all soldiers now.

  • First Avenger

The first time I watched Captain America: The First Avenger was back in theaters when it came out. And I don’t know why, I didn’t, like it, or at least I remember saying I didn’t. And that’s how I remember the movie in my mind, not sure why but not liking it. After that first time I might have seen it once. Last night I decided I wanted to revisit the movie, actually bought it!

And um', I think I had totally misjudged this movie the first time around. This movie is actually really amazing. Either I didn’t quite get it at the time or maybe I am just seeing it in a different way? Considering all the movies that have come out since. Whatever the case is, I’m glad I revisited and changed my opinion on it.

  • Re-evaluating my task managers.

Every now and then I go ahead and install every task manager app I own or have ever tried. As a way to re-evaluate or just because I’m bored. And then I start deleting them as I go and realize is not what I want/need at the moment. So I installed, Things, OmniFocus 3, Todoist, TickTick and GoodTask. Todoist and TickTick were the first ones to go, right now I still have the other three installed. I don’t know exactly how this is going to turn out but —OmniFocus!

As I was arriving to work this morning I got a location based notification from OmniFocus about a project that I had somewhat forgotten about. Well, more like it was in the back of my head until I saw the notification when I arrived at work and made me deal with it right away. I forgot how useful this feature is and how much I use it. So I may keep OmniFocus around and take advantage of some of its features.

I still like Things, I believe it’s an excellent and gorgeous application but I can’t stick with it for too long, don’t know why. My favourite thing about things is the Upcoming tab, I like how everything is presented in a clear way without too much clutter.

GoodTask is what I have been using for a while now. My only issue with it is that it doesn’t sync very well. Sometimes I complete or add a task and is not until I open the app that it syncs and the badge goes away or the added task shows in the watch complication. Maybe I’m doing wrong or there’s something I’m missing.

Anyway after all this playing around I am sure I’ll end up in the same spot. Part of me want to burn all my systems to the ground and start over with basic stuff, maybe even pen and paper.

    IN OTHER NEWS:

I’m also at that point again of re-evaluating whether or not to keep my Instagram account. I had no problems closing Facebook but I’m having a hard time letting Instagram go and having it around makes me feel a little hypocrite.

  • Top five Miyazaki/Ghibli movies

    lurock:

Rank your top five Miyazaki Ghibli movies:

    1. Castle in the Sky
    2. Spirited Away
    3. Princess Mononoke
    4. My Neighbor Totoro
    5. Porco Rosso

I would probably move Princess Mononoke to number one though. And if could ad a number six, it’d be Howl’s Moving Castle for sure.

  • Something New.

Finally! We got a new TV in this household. It was long overdue, we have had our old TV for over 6 years and it was starting show its age. So now we got one of those Ultra-High-Definition 4K TV’s, a Samsung. So far it’s pretty sweet, it works as intended and it looks pretty. Now the nerd in me wants to go ahead and do some research and setup the image just right. Still, I am very impressed with the out-of-the-box image quality so far. And OMG, Assassin’s Creed Origins looks so good! I am seeing and noticing things I didn’t before !!! Love it!

    Katana ZERO

Katana Zero is a blisteringly fast slash-em-up with action that’s an absolute adrenaline rush.

    IGN

This game has been under my radar since its release on the Nintendo Switch. I finally went ahead and got it and I am not disappointed. This game is a lot of fun! There’s a little bit of a learning curve and at first it might seem a little difficult but so far I haven’t lost my coolness –– or my patience.

  • Decisions, decisions.

I, shouldn’t have done it. I should have just stayed with what I have and not look around. But, the always curious — always unsatisfied — nerd in me, wanted to try. As I have mentioned before, I went ahead a created a Blot account. I wanted to see what it had to offer and why some of the cool kids I know use it, and I get why! It’s a very neat service and now that I got my system figured out even more so. However, I can’t decide, whether to keep my Mb setup or Blot’s. I made a list of the things I like and like-less from each service and…

It’s even! Can’t come up with a solid conclusion. For now I am maintaining, or rather, posting to both services in the hopes that one day I’ll make a decision but until then I’m just going back and forth in my head.

  • Feelings.

I normally don’t get work stuff get to me. A long time ago I learned it’s better to be a little desensitized and just play the corporate game and play it well. Today though, seems it has gotten the best of me and it took a year for that to happen. Today I’ll stay alone in the office chill and do my work alone before I get in trouble.

  • Overcomplicating a thing

I have been playing around with Blot for a few days now and it’s an amazing service and there are many many things I love about it but… Is it really for me? I gotta say, Micro.blog has spoiled me rotten, everything from hosting, to posting (with or without images) and “managing” the site it’s so so easy and worry-free in many ways. I got all my Drafts actions and Shortcuts set in a way that makes everything 100x easier to post. Whereas, Blot requieres a little bit more “tinkering”, and as I am sure there are ways to make everything easy and more automated, I am having a hard time with it. I do appreciate all the help I have gotten so far from different members of the community, specially @joshsullivan whom I have been bombarding with questions for days. But for some reason trying to make it work and some of the stuff that I am having difficult with, it’s causing me more anxiety than anything else. Perhaps I’m just getting a little frustrated by overcomplicating things for myself with something that seems like an easy fun thing. I might still try a few things before I decide to give up on it. Like I’ve said, I don’t want to feel anxious about something that should be fun.

  • Got nothing!

Why is that every time I get something new or learn something new, I don’t have anything to write about? Or at least nothing that will require me using my new stuff. For example, when I got my new 11" iPad Pro along with the keyboard, I was looking for any excuse to write and use my new toy. Nope! Got nothing — for a while!

Now, not only setup a Blot account (which I’m still playing and testing with) but also a sweet way to include images to my posts using my favourite app Drafts! I got nothing!

So I decided to just write this post, with no added value whatsoever, throwing random images simply because I want to test said workflow thing!

  • More thoughts on Blot

It seems like I can make this blot thing work. I found, or rather, someone directed me to this combination of Drafts/Shortcuts actions created by Craig Mcclellan that let me add image links to my blog post and then I can post from Drafts to Blot (or even Micro.blog if I wanted to).

    I’ll keep you updated…

  • Blot first thoughts.

Last night had setup a blot account and today I got pretty much every post exported to it. Everything went pretty smoothly I think except that some of my links are, not broken, but the formatting it’s wrong. I guess I can fix that somehow. I love the look of the default theme, I think was one of the reason I wanted to give blot a try, not the only reason though. Anyway now that’s done, now I’m thinking about how this move may affect my blogging workflow. For sure it seems like Ulysses pr iA Writer would be two good apps for writing and editing my blogposts since they integrate with Dropbox well. But I feel like I’m also adding more complexity to the way I blog. Right now the way Micro.blog handles my posts and images it’s super easy and convenient. Whereas with blot I’d have to create folders in Dropbox and add these images “manually” in ways I’m not used to. Also now I’m thinking that I’d have to upgrade my Dropbox account because eventually I’m going to run out of space and that would be another subscription I need to worry about. I’ll keep playing with it, see how I feel about it and the changes that will come.

  • Everything for the Switch

Often times, a game will come out, sometimes for multiple systems and then I find myself debating. Do I buy it for the PlayStation 4 or for the Xbox One or for the Nintendo Switch? This is not taking into account graphics or performance, I could really care less for such intricacies these days, honestly. For example, I’ve never played Skyrim’s and I know, most people would advice to buy it for a console but is it really that important or necessary? Would it really change or matter than much the experience of the game? Would it entertain me any less if I play it on the Switch?

    In one of the super secret channels where I hang with other nerds, someone mentioned something that resonated with me;

I want everything for Switch…There is an intimacy in playing with a screen a few inches from one’s face and good headphones that cannot be matched by a big-screen TV (as much as I love the big screen) and it really helps this game’s experience.

When I bought the remastered version of Darksiders (for a second time, the fist time being on the Xbox) I wasn’t sure why I did it. Now I think I know why. And not just that but the fact that I can play the a game anywhere and on the big-screen if I such desire, that to me it’s a very compelling reason to pick the Switch over the traditional console.

    Savvy?

  • The Olympus M.Zuiko 75mm F1.8 Lens, first impressions.

I just wanted to take a second and share some of my first impressions on the Olympus M.Zuiko 75mm F1.8 lens. This thing it’s heavy! It is all-metal and probably the heaviest lens I’ve ever owned. I mean, it’s only 10.7 ounces according to the manufacturer but compared to other lenses I own, this is the heaviest by far. Regardless, the build-quality of this thing is pro-like. With a 2x ‘‘crop factor’’, this lens would be the equivalent to a 150mm on a 35mm system. It’s an unusual focal length so it will take some getting used to.

Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to go out and about to play with this lens (yet). So for now I have been taking pictures around the house basically at anything that (doesn’t) moves. Like this one (more to come). Taken with the 75mm (at the kitchen table) and edited with VSCO.

  • Buena suerte traduciendo.

  • I take it back!

On a previous post, I had made the following statement:

Not long ago I wrote a little bit about my every day carry setup. Well that also has changed in a way, basically I had downsized from the Synapse 25 to the 19 Liters. Turns out I am going back to the 25, it is nice to have that extra space, even when sometimes that extra space isn’t necessarily taken advantaged of. But in the past two weeks I have found myself in situations were I wish I had the extra space. So I guess I can say that my experiment has been successful and obtained the data I needed? (el-oh-el).

Well, I kinda take that back. I did move everything from my Synapse 19 to my 25. As soon as I put it on before leaving the house I was like “nope”! I have gotten so used to the size and the convince of the 19 that now the 25 seems way too big! And yes all that unused extra space that I had mentioned. So I’m back with the 19, it suits me better, I think I can deal with the one or two situations in which the extra space could be needed. I still think the 25 is perfect when traveling though. When I’m traveling I want to have as much room as possible, but for the day to day carry, the 19 liters is the best option for me.

    IN OTHER NEWS:

My new lens should be arriving sometime tomorrow! (Happy dance 💃)

  • What I've been up to.

I feel like I haven’t been writing as much lately, except for a few short posts here and there. I don’t know, either I’m out of ideas or just a little busy? Well, I know I have been meaning to talk/write about how my workflow has changed since I got my 11" iPad Pro, it’s been about a month now. I guess I just haven’t been able to organize my thoughts in a coherent manner. What I can say right now is that I love this device and yes, my workflow has changed considerably, I barely use (if at all) my MacBook Pro and I am fully invested in iOS, more than ever. I have started using the iPad more and more at work, for meetings, taking notes with the Apple Pencil and even managing my tasks.

Instead of writing I have been using the little time I have for myself playing video games. First started with Sekiro on the Xbox One S, and didn’t last long. The game it’s a little difficult at times, at least for me, and don’t feel like I have the time or the patience to deal with it’s difficulty. I quickly moved to the Nintendo Switch and got really into Darksiders, again! I have played this game on the Playstation 3 when it first came out, again on the Xbox and now on the Switch. Also been Playing Assassin’s Creed: Origins, for like the tenth time I want to say. I guess its some sort of a pattern to go back to games I am comfortable with when I get frustrated with a new one.

Another hobby I am starting to pickup again it’s photography. I have been back at going around shooting more often and getting that photography bug back. I have even ordered a new lens (whoop whoop!) for my camera, which it should arrive Friday (April 19th), the Olympus M.Zuiko 75mm F1.8 (so excited). I even made myself another photography challenge.

Now that I am more invested in the iOS ecosystem, I am trying to tight up or simplify my workflows. Meaning reassessing which apps I’m using for what, which ones to get rid off and such. Obviously Drafts has become my main text editor, yes both iA Writer and Ulysses are fantastic apps but the combination of Drafts with the post to Micro.blog action, it’s all I need. Also Drafts has been where all my text starts for years so it was a no-brainer. As far as my task managers debacle I believe it was come to an end (I am sure this will change later this week), I have been using GoodTask as my main task manager for a while now. Using a very simple setup, nothing too nerdy, just some lists and calendar view –– perfect! As far as systems goes, these two where my biggest struggles, task mangers and text editors.

(el-oh-el).

Reading! I want to get back into it, I have probably went about it in the wrong way by buying three books in less than two weeks! Show your Work, Keep Going, both by Austin Kleon and a Novel, La Gran Novela Boricua by Alexis Sebastian Mendez, Alexis Zarraga. And of course a comic book trade Thor Vol. 1 God Of Thunder Reborn, I love Jason Aaron’s Thor!

Also been trying to get back into my workout routine, drink more water, less beer and eat healthy more consistently. So far there have been some progress as far as been more consistent and been careful with what I put in my body. Another change I made in order to have more time for the many other things in my life, I changed my work hours, I used to do ten hour shifts, and yes that meant three days off but it wasn’t worth it. Although my hours were always ten, my schedule in general is always changing, it is not very consistent. Some days I am the opener QS (Quality Specialist) or the closer or I might work from Monday to Saturday or even Sundays. Either way I barely had enough time to spend with my wife and kids and with myself since I was always too tired to do anything late at night or I had no time for anything before work –– it was a mess. Now that I am back at eight hour shifts, I have more hours in the day to dedicate time to both my family and myself.

All that been said, I want to make more time for writing and putting more of my thoughts and ideas out there. Maybe I should make some sort of schedule in which I get to dedicate some time to either read, play video games or writing stuff away. We shall see how it goes.

I think it’s time for another photo challenge. This time around I want to do a black and white photo challenge. I do some black and white photography here and there but it’s not like all the time. I think it’ll be a nice experiment and see what comes out of it.

Also, I am getting a new lens here soon, which I’m very excited about, the Olympus M. Zuiko Digital ED 75mm F1.8 (chef kiss). It’s a lens I have been wanting to get for a long time. I’m trading-in two lenses that I rarely ever used, so it worked out great! I am very excited!

  • Downsized?

For a while now, I have been using the Synapse 25 by Tom Bihn to carry all my sh…tuff. For about a week now, I have “downsized” to the 19 liters. Definitely one of the main changes, I am carrying less stuff, but only the most needed/used stuff! There was so much unused space with the 25 liters. The one weird thing is thatI was so used to the 25 that the 19 kind of feels like I’m carrying a fanny pack on my back (el-oh-el).
