  • Jack Baty | Tinkering as identity?

Whenever I see others refer to me or my blog, it’s usually along the lines of “he changes his blog a lot…”. This is fine, because I do, but I’m wondering if this is what I’d like to be remembered for. Wouldn’t it be better to be remembered for my photographs, my writing, or art, or being otherwise useful to the world?

    I feel identified…

  • 🔗 Jack Baty | My GTD Merry-Go-Round

I love my notebook, but it’s hard to capture everything. Writing by hand is work, so I don’t always bother. I then promptly start forgetting things.

This is why writing things down on paper never sticks for me.

  • Covid: It’s That Bad

Are articles like this one that put the fear of god in me. Makes me just want to never come out of the house and have Annie never go back to her work, which is a hospital where she recently got infected, for the second time.

  • Apple TV+ lands “Murderbot"

Apple TV+ today announced that it will expand its slate of acclaimed, expansive sci-fi series with “Murderbot,” a new 10-episode series hailing from Academy Award-nominated creators and directors Chris and Paul Weitz (“About a Boy,” “Mozart in the Jungle”) that will star Emmy Award winner Alexander Skarsgård (“Succession,” “Big Little Lies,” “The Northman”) in the lead role.

this is exciting! Especially since I never finished the series, because I am lazy like that.

    Balancing the analogue and digital

I do have to say that this came across at a great time, as I have been trying to find a balance between my digital and analog note-keeping. And the reason why paper, well I guess I couldn’t have said better, actually I didn’t quite have a clear reason in my head until I read this,

Paper forces me to slow down, as I simply can’t write as quickly as I can type (or speak, if I’m dictating). This gives me space to think and a pause to consider my words and what I’m actually writing down. And with zero distractions or notifications, it allows me to focus on one thing at a time.

Thank you for sharing, @TheMacPsych, at richardmackinnon.blog

  • Confession. I rarely ever read anything on this website but I love scrolling and looking the crap out of it. Also makes me dislike my office space every time.

“People will say to me, ‘Oh, yeah, there’s a track where John’s singing one of my songs,’ and it’s just AI, you know?” he told the British public broadcaster over the summer. “It’s kind of scary but exciting, because it’s the future. We’ll just have to see where that leads.

It is kind of scary and it would seem that this is the feature that we’re heading to, I guess.

    The Esquire By PAUL KIX

There’s a growing movement among religious leaders to use psychedelics like psilocybin to deepen their faith. The author attended a secret ceremony to find out whether it works.

    Excuse me, what?

Also, being able to listen rather than reading, game changer.

Skoobs - On Having a Blog

I feel a sense of peace of mind here. Where social media feels like a busy commercial area, full of flashing lights and noise, this is more like a quiet home in a quiet neighborhood. All of these things are why I’m an advocate of owning your own webspace. Largely, because it’s your own webspace. Not Meta’s, not Twitter’s (or whatever the fuck they’ll call themself in 24 hours), nobody else. It’s yours. Own it.

(in my best papa swolio's voice)

  • A thing I liked.

Darknet Diaries EP 135: THE D.R. INCIDENT

    Image of a charging bull

Omar Avilez worked in the CSIRT of the Dominican Republic when a major cybersecurity incident erupted. Omar walks us through what happened and the incident response procedures that he went through

Of course, like almost every episode of this show, this was a good one, at least to me. And I agree, it is still scary that in this day and age, we are still so vulnerable to cyberattacks and especially at this scale.

It also reminded me that not long ago, in 2022, Puerto Rico also got hacked by this type of attack. And in case you’ve forgotten your geography, PR and DR are neighboring islands. I don’t remember if any other agencies or systems were hacked at all. I just remember that the system known as AutoExpreso, which controls the electronic toll collection, was hacked.

PuertoRicans being PuertoRicans, they were not mad about it, I mean, the government sure was, but not the public. The only thing the public was mad about was why the hackers did not delete all the fines and debts. 🤣

  • Force-closing like it is 2010

this post was going to be a Toot

I force-closed my apps for 3 days. It made me kinda hate my phone. by Matt Birchler

I'll say up front that I don’t judge anyone who force-closes their apps.

Me:  I DO AND ALWAYS WILL! 😜

This seemed like a good experiment or POC, and a good write-up. I personally never force-closed my apps, In my head the devices are "smart" enough to handle this. Well, I may use to do it back in the iPhone4 days, but not anymore. I can't remember when I stopped doing it. My lady, on the other hand, still does, I see her force-closing her apps, and her brothers too, and yes, I judge them every time. Seems like a waste of time to me.
